Annual Youth Pride Concert Scheduled for February 26, 2023

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.- (November 30, 2022) The South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble is currently accepting applications for the 12th Annual Youth Pride Band program where they will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to high school band students throughout South Florida. It is free to apply and applications are due by Monday, December 19, 2022.

In addition to being eligible to receive a monetary reward, Youth Pride applicants will have an opportunity to practice and perform alongside seasoned musicians who are members of South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble. Now in its 12th season, the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble has distributed $159,000 in Youth Pride scholarship funds since 2012.

“With more people identifying as LGBTQ earlier in their lives, it is vital that we as a community create a safe space, protect against bullying and celebrate our diversity through the power of music,” said Adam DeRosa, board chair of the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble.
The South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble’s Youth Pride concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Amaturo Theatre. The special performance will be conducted by Emmy® Award winning composer Julie Giroux. An accomplished orchestrator, composer, arranger, clinician and guest conductor, Giroux became the first female composer to have her work performed during a U.S. Presidential Inauguration ceremony when the presidential band performed her piece as Vice President Kamala D. Harris was introduced.
